Is Variety the Spice of Life…and Leadership?

Sometimes it is good to simply ponder a question and see where it leads you. Today is one of those days.

I am a firm believer in process, hence my book and leadership curriculum “The Process, Art, and Science of Leadership”. I believe process gives a firm direction and allows for flexibility and conscious adjustments.

Where, then, is the variety, or spice, if my contention that leadership is a process? Does following a process mean you have to do the same thing the same way every time?

Yes and no.

Sometimes and always.

Huh? Exactly!

Have you given yourself variety where you can to make things a little more interesting? If you made even small adjustments to seemingly insignificant patterns or processes that you follow, is it possible you may stumble on to something new? Perhaps a better way to do something? Perhaps better or more efficient results? Perhaps just a little more fun?

Think it over and find some places to do things differently if you can.

Why do this?

Why not?

The only way to know if something will work or reap benefits is to give it a try. Find out once and for all if variety is in fact the spice of life and leadership.
