We get inspired when we hear, “I have dream!” We get inspired when we hear, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” We get inspired when we read about the person who lost 100 pounds and now runs marathons. We get inspired by the person who risked their own life to save another’s.
Now what? What do we do when the moment passes?
Are you looking for inspiration to write that book? Sure, you can listen to the interview of your favorite author. Then listen to the interview of HER favorite author. Then read your favorite book from your favorite author again, and again, and…you get the idea. Or, you can start writing. That’s when the inspiration will come.
From the DOING.
The new body you’re looking for? Read the exercise books, read the diet books, watch YouTube workouts all day. Keep procrastinating until you decide to find where your real inspiration will come from…DOING the actual exercise and diet.
It won’t be pretty at first.
But DOING is where the inspiration comes from. We must get comfortable with being good at being bad initially. But we must start DOING to find our inspiration.
And, no, not just once or twice. Over and over until it becomes a habit. Finding inspiration is actually hard work because it comes from the DOING.
And yes, even the somewhat intangible practice of leadership. Learn all you can from the greats, but not in lieu of actually DOING leadership. You’ll make mistakes. It’s ok. Learn, move on, DO more leading.
You want to set the example? DO! You want to lead? DO! You want to inspire others? DO! You want to find inspiration for yourself? DO!
